Welcome to the TIMSIG pre beta web site.

TIMSIG is a Irish music society in the Gothenburg area, Sweden.   We play traditional Irish music in what is commonly known as 'sessions'.  These sessions are essentially how we meet, practice and learn new tunes but they are also usually located in a pub or restaurant where we get to entertain the guests at the same time.   We also arrange workshops and tune swap events intending to further share knowledge and skills between our musicians.
This site aim to provide information on where and when things happen, what tunes that are usually played et.c.

If you play Irish music, or just enjoy listening to it, you are more than welcome to join our sessions. However, it is always a good idea to ask the session manager how things are run. We currently have regular sessions on the following locations in Gothenburg.


Haket Pub,   Första Långgatan 32.   Map.   Session manager.
Our session in Haket usually attract about 10-15 musicians but there is always room for a few more. Many musicians who discovered the Irish tradition in recent times will be happy here, but some "old timers" also tend to show up. The kitchen here is very good and the selection of beer is fantastic. That and some good tunes is just what you need for a great evening. When the session gets going it may at times keep on going until well after midnight.

Almost every second Saturday afternoon there is Irish music being played in The Dubliner at Järntorget. It is at the pubs request a small session and participation as musician is by personal invitation only. Everyone is of course very welcome as guests to enjoy good food and drink while listening to the tones of good Irish music.

This Celtic old sea tavern has acoustics as if it was made to sit and play in. We have quite recently started sessions here so it'll be very interesting to see how things unfold. Our session in Port Arthur is open to everyone but please send an email to the session manager if you know you can come as it will make it easier to prepare for the evening.

There are venues with spontaneously created sessions but for obvious reasons we have no idea where or when this will be. If we get advance notice we will put it in our session calendar here.

The world-renowned Scottish fiddle player Alasdair Fraser and the cellist Natalie Haas, will visit Gothenburg on May 24. They will play in the new Pustervik at Järntorget where they share the evening with Majornas 3dje Rote. Read more...   (Swedish only.)

On YouTube you can find all sorts of things. For example, videos with tunes like: Silver Spear, Sally Gardens, Jenny´s Chickens, Mason´s Apron, Kesh Jig, Cooleys Reel, Lark in the Morning et. c. Some versions are better than others... These tunes are sometimes played in our sessions so the videos may be well worth watching, no matter what instrument you play.

Tune Swap 1. This is our first tune swapping event or 'Låtstuga' which is a good evening to attend for those who want to learn a few more Irish tunes. It is also an opportunity for the more experienced musicians to pass on some of the knowledge gained over their years of session play. We do not sit at our usual table in the pub, but somewhat more secluded in a adjacent room. It is more suitable for practising, swapping tunes and learn more about how the session works with rules and etiquette. We start at 19.30. A preliminary tune list and a agenda for the evening will be handed out before we start. Any changes noted during the evening and mailed to the participants afterwards. Register your interest and reserve your seat by sending an email to the address at the bottom of this page. If you haven't played with us before, please include what instrument you play and what previous experience you have with traditional irish music. Close

Three days of session sailing onboard the schooner Ingo. Tuesday and Wednesday, an onboard session when moored at the docks by the opera house.	The session at sea is free for the first 7 musicians. Guests and additional musicians pay SEK 200. Musicians fill be fed onboard at 17.00. The moored session is all open since we have more space and different maritime rules apply.
